According to foreign media reports, Mazda North America has announced that it will recall some Mazda 3 models from 2014 to 2018 and CX-3 models from 2016 to 2021 in the United States.
The recall report released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on July 14th showed that a total of 227335 vehicles in the US market were affected by this recall, and the rearview camera images of these vehicles may not be displayed properly.
On some vehicles, due to improper design of wiring harness fasteners, the rearview camera wiring harness may be damaged by vibration during normal vehicle use or when closing the lift door. The connector pins may wear out, resulting in high resistance.
Due to these defects, the rearview camera may display distorted or flickering images. The report states that distortion or flickering of camera images during reversing can affect the driver's judgment and increase the risk of a collision.
For all recalled vehicles, Mazda dealers will inspect or replace rearview mirror cameras as needed. In addition, the dealer will also install a wire harness fixing seal. All repairs will be provided free of charge to car owners.
The document released by NHTSA states that Mazda submitted 9 on-site reports related to defective cameras. Mazda stated in a statement that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this defect. Mazda will notify all affected car owners via email on September 12th.
